1. Industry Association Releases 2024 Refractory Materials Operation Report
The latest data from authoritative industry institutions shows that national refractory products output reached 22.0711 million tonnes in 2024, down 3.73% year-on-year. Dense shaped refractory products totalled 11.3163 million tonnes (down 6.07%), thermal insulation refractory products reached 837,700 tonnes (up 11.17%), and unshaped refractory products amounted to 9.9171 million tonnes (down 2.07%).
In 2024, key industry enterprises achieved total sales revenue of 65.068 billion yuan, down 4.55% year-on-year. Among these, 13 enterprises achieved sales revenue exceeding 1 billion yuan, 7 exceeded 2 billion yuan, and 5 exceeded 3 billion yuan.
Market Outlook: For 2025, refractory material market prices show signs of bottoming out and stabilising. There is no further room for customer price reductions, and the industry's profit expectations are expected to improve to some extent.
2. 2025 National Refractory Materials Technical Exchange Conference Successfully Held
In April, the National Refractory Materials Technical Exchange Conference was successfully held in Henan Province. Representatives from industry, academia, and research institutes covering raw materials to finished refractory products gathered to exchange new technical developments and promote industry cooperation.
Such technical exchange conferences have become important platforms for technical exchange and idea sharing in the refractory industry, playing an active role in promoting technological innovation and industrial upgrading.
3. Refractory Raw Material Price Trend Analysis
Refractory raw material prices remained generally stable in 2024, with alumina experiencing the most significant price fluctuations. Due to logistics factors and futures speculation, alumina prices were pushed to recent highs in the first half of 2024. In early 2025, alumina prices declined markedly, returning to more reasonable levels.
The overall tone for 2025 refractory raw material prices is modest increases, with raw materials unable to provide further cost reduction space for refractory product manufacturing.
4. Import and Export Trade Data
In 2024, total import and export trade value of refractory raw materials nationwide reached US$3.944 billion, down 13.61% compared to the previous year. Export trade value was US$3.784 billion, down 12.31%. Total export volume of refractory raw materials was 7.2093 million tonnes, up 4.09%.
In 2024, export markets generally exhibited a pattern of volume increases with price declines, clearly trading volume for price.
5. Global Furnace Refractory Materials Market Forecast
Latest market research data shows that global furnace refractory materials revenue was approximately 440 million yuan in 2024, expected to reach nearly 570 million yuan by 2031, with a compound annual growth rate of 4.2% from 2025-2031.
Furnace refractory materials are heat-resistant materials used to line furnaces, kilns, and other high-temperature processing equipment interiors. These materials can withstand extreme temperatures and are indispensable materials for high-temperature industries.
6. Industry Development Trends and Challenges
Currently, the refractory materials industry has entered a new phase of volume reduction and stock optimisation. The contradiction of oversupply will persist for an extended period, requiring time to achieve new balance.
